A Belfast university which offered places to dozens of students by mistake has decided to allow the majority of them to enrol.

The University of Ulster's School of Engineering responded to 370 applications with offers, when there were only 194 places available.

The error was blamed on a computer malfunction.

The university has now decided to offer the students places despite their not having attained the required marks.

Extra teaching and support are to be offered to deal with the increased numbers.
