Motorists are being warned that the price of motor fuel is expected to hit an all-time high next week.

According to AA Ireland, the cost of a litre of petrol will increase on average to €1.70, while diesel will rise to €1.60 per litre.

An increase of the cost of oil on world markets, the declining value of the euro against the dollar and tax increases on petrol and diesel are being blamed for the hike.

The cost of motor fuel has increased significantly over the past year, however AA Ireland recorded a slight drop in prices in June.
