A search was launched in Lough Ree on the River Shannon tonight for a man who went missing at about 8.45pm.
A cruiser with three German nationals aboard ran aground near Priest's Island on the earlier in the evening.
Two of the people were recovered from the boat, but a third person who left the cruiser on a dinghy has not been located.
He is believed to have left the cruiser with the intention of heading towards a jetty on the western shoreline of the lake in Co Roscommon, but may have stopped at a nearby island.
He has not yet made any contact with his friends from the cruiser.
The Lough Ree RNLI rescue boat and volunteers from the Lough Ree sub-aqua club were involved in the search.
Earlier, a search off the coast of Galway was called off after it emerged that a report of a yacht in distress was a false alarm.
The Shannon based Coast Guard helicopter was involved in the search after reports of a distress signal from a French-registered yacht.
