The five-day Discover Ireland Dublin Horse Show has begun at the RDS in Ballsbridge.
It is the highlight of the showjumping year in Ireland.
There is extra interest this year with Ireland's Olympic bronze medallist Cian O'Connor and two Olympic gold medallists taking part.
There is also a spark to this week’s show following the boost for Irish-bred horses at London 2012.
There is nearly €1m in prize money between now and Sunday and over 1,400 horses are in action.
Famous stunt rider Jean Francois Pignon will demonstrate his skills each day.
Mr O'Connor will be competing in team and individual events.
Olympic gold medallists Steve Guerdat from Switzerland and Britain's Nick Skelton will also be jumping.
RDS Chief Executive Michael Duffy said that the show combines high-quality equestrianism with entertainment, style, glamour and excitement.
The show has been a part of Dublin's social and sporting life for nearly 150 years.
