Hundreds of people turned out at City Hall in Belfast this afternoon to welcome home Olympic medal-winning boxers Paddy Barnes and Michael Conlan.

The pair travelled across the city in an open-top bus, accompanied by relatives and their coaches.

They were greeted by Belfast’s Deputy Lord Mayor, Tierna Cunningham, on arrival at City Hall.

Councillor Cunningham said the young boxers represented the new face of Belfast.

A large crowd gathered outside the Titanic Centre last night, where the Olympians attended a private homecoming ceremony.

Coleraine is expected to welcome home three medal winners tomorrow.

Team GB rowers Peter and Richard Chambers won silver medals, while Alan Campbell took bronze.

Around 20,000 people turned out in Bray, Co Wicklow, yesterday to welcome home Olympic gold medallist Katie Taylor.

Thousands more attended the homecoming for silver medallist John Joe Nevin in Mullingar.

An official homecoming reception for Team Ireland will be held at the Mansion House in Dublin tomorrow afternoon.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny will then host a Government reception for the athletes at Farmleigh House in the Phoenix Park.
