The first in a series of SIPTU briefings for home help workers involved in a nationwide dispute with the Health Service Executive has taken place in Cork.

Up to 9,000 home help workers employed by the HSE are in dispute with their employer over not implementing a 2009 agreement on contracts.

A Labour Court recommendation in June directed the HSE to meet the union within a month to resolve the dispute.

While a meeting has taken place, the issue remains unresolved.

SIPTU Organiser Sharon Cregan has called on all home help workers to attend the meetings in their areas so that they can be briefed on what is happening.

Further meetings will take place around the country over the coming weeks.
