A teenage boy has been airlifted to hospital after being seriously injured while swimming in Co Clare.
The 17-year-old, believed to be from Limerick, was hurt after diving into shallow water from the pier at Kilkee.
Kilkee Marine Rescue Service and local unit of the Irish Coast Guard were first to respond the scene after the alarm was raised at around 12.30pm.
HSE paramedics and the Shannon-based rescue helicopter were also alerted.
The youth was removed from the water and treated at the scene. He is understood to have suffered a serious cut to the head.
He was removed by ambulance to the local golf club from where he was airlifted to University College Hospital in Galway for treatment.
