Customers of former bill payment company Home Payments are to receive some money back.
Home Payments Limited went into liquidation in August last year and owed up to €6m to its 2,300 customers.
Around 700 of those were owed between €3,000 and €10,000 and 23 customers were owed more than €10,000.
RTÉ News has learned that customers are likely to receive between 20% and 25% of their money back.
Home Payments was established in the 1960s and provided budgeting and bill paying services to its customers.
After the firm collapsed there were calls for regulation of debt management firms.
The Central Bank carried out a review of similar operations, which resulted in some companies closing.
The bank has said that some others are currently putting safeguards in place.
However, legislation has not yet been introduced.
The Department of Finance said the Minister for Finance is committed to dealing with debt management agencies by amending the Central Bank Supervision and Enforcement Bill.
