The body of a man in his 40s has been recovered from Lough Derg in Co Tipperary.

A search operation was launched in the area yesterday involving the RNLI and local volunteers after a speedboat was discovered upturned in the water close to Garrykennedy Bay.

The man’s body was located at around 8pm this evening by members of the Killaloe Search and Rescue Divers Unit around 30 metres from the boat.

The body was taken to the Mid-Western Regional hospital in Limerick where a post mortem will be carried out.
