Cisco Systems plans to eliminate about 1,300 jobs, or 2% of its global workforce, as Europe's debt crisis and sluggish corporate spending threaten sales.
The world's largest supplier of computer networking equipment says the cuts are part of a "continuous process of simplifying the company".
Cisco currently employs around 180 people in Oranmore in Galway and 100 at its sales and capital operation in Dublin.
It did not specify which operations will be trimmed in the latest round of job cuts.
Shares in the California-based multinational have tumbled 11% this year.
