An apartment development in Dundrum in Co Dublin is to be evacuated after the building was found to have breached fire regulations.

Receivers to ''The Laurels'' development, KPMG, has confirmed that tenants are to be moved to temporary accommodation while repair work is carried out.

It is understood that around 70 apartments are currently occupied and it may take up to three months before all tenants can return to the apartments.

''The Laurels'', which overlooks the Dundrum Town shopping centre, was built by Pierce Construction for the Tuskar Asset Management group. Both companies have since collapsed.

Kieran Wallace of KPMG says that tenants will not have to pay rent or utility bills while in temporary accommodation.

KPMG says Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and the Fire Officer have been informed of the problem.

The apartments were built in 2007.
