Flood warnings remain in place in many parts of Britain as heavy rain continues to cause disruption.
There are 57 flood warnings and 150 flood alerts in England and Wales and nine flood alerts in Scotland.
The Met Office in Britain issued a red severe weather warning, the highest level on its warning system.
It has warned people to take action to protect themselves and their properties.
In Ireland, AA Roadwatch has urged motorists to drive with particular care following heavy and persistent rain.
It said excess surface water is posing a threat to road safety in many areas.
Met Éireann had warned that up 40mm of rain could fall over the east of the country last night.
