The National Consumer Agency has announced a review of online deal websites.
Research from the agency suggests a third of people who bought from sites offering discount deals were dissatisfied.
Some blamed poor service delivery or poor product quality.
Almost a fifth cited problems where the retailer could not provide the service when required, or delivery was delayed.
MyDealPage.ie, which is a daily deal directory showing all the offers from Ireland's daily deal sites, has welcomed the review by the National Consumer Agency (NCA).
They said that they will be collaborating with the NCA to try and set a high standard of quality for the market.
The company also wants to ensure better consumer satisfaction in the sector.
Pigsback.com also welcomed the review.
Consumer expert Tina Leonard said that Irish people spend €150,000 a day on online deals amounting to €50m in sales each year.
She said consumers shopping online are legally entitled to a “cooling off” period of at least seven days, when they can change their minds and pull out of the voucher deal.
She also pointed out that if the retailer or service provider cannot provide the service or product, the deal site provide a refund.
The NCA is meeting all the main deals websites over the next few weeks.
