Ulster Bank branches to remain open over weekend

The payment backlog is continuing at Ulster Bank forcing some customers to join long queues to access money.

The bank opened many of its branches for a second weekend to help customers affected by the on-going problems.

The bank now says it will not be sorted out until the middle of next week.

Many salary and social welfare payments are yet to land in people's bank accounts.

The bank says it has been attempting to assist customers through its branch network.

Ulster Bank has said it will accommodate people if they produce photo ID, account details and payslips.

The bank plans to open a number of its branches again tomorrow.

Earlier this week, the Central Bank said it fully expected Ulster Bank to stick to its commitment to resolve all problems by this weekend.

Ulster Bank is not owned by the State and is not covered by the State Eligible Liabilities Guarantee for amounts over €100,000.

However, deposits up to €100,000 are guaranteed under the Deposit Guarantee Scheme
