Minister Phil Hogan expects pyrite report soon

Minister for the Environment Phil Hogan has said he expects to receive a report on the issue of pyrite in houses in the coming days.

A panel set-up last September to "identify a way forward in regard to pyrite contamination in private housing stock" has been reporting on the issue.

In reply to a parliamentary question by Clare Daly of the Socialist Party, the minister said he expects to have the report in the coming days, and it is his intention to publish it as quickly as possible.

The panel was established in the wake of a decision by HomeBond, the industry guarantee scheme, to write to home owners whose houses had been damaged by the use of pyrite indicating that they would not accept liability for defects caused by its use.
