Escalating violence between Palestinian militants and Israeli forces has threatened to unravel a shaky truce brokered by Egypt which had temporarily calmed violence.
The ceasefire was agreed last week following a raid across Egypt's Sinai border, leaving an Israeli worker and two Palestinian gunmen killed.
Today, Israel launched air raids on Hamas security targets in Gaza, killing two and wounding 30 people.
Israel has confirmed both strikes.
The strikes came after at least 15 rockets were fired at Israeli targets, nearly three times as many as the previous day.
Israel has said that Gaza militants had also fired more than 130 rockets into its territory last week.
Elsewhere, a high-ranking Iranian general said Israeli military action against Iran's nuclear programme would lead to the collapse of the Jewish state.
Deputy Chief of Staff of Iran's armed forces Mostafa Izadi was responding to Israeli Vice Prime Minister Shaul Mofaz's call for sanctions against Tehran.
