Around 100 bog owners in Co Galway have taken part in a protest over Government plans on turf cutting.
Gardaí moved in to remove turf cutting equipment from a protected bog near Portumna.
One man was later arrested during the protest at Clonmoylan Bog.
The bog owners say they have the right to continue to exercise their rights on their property and that no satisfactory deal has been struck with the Government to persuade them to stop cutting turf.
Earlier, the National Parks and Wildlife seized a digger and a hopper and a garda presence has been in place throughout the day.
Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Jimmy Deenihan has said the compensation package to turf cutters has been enhanced and efforts have been made to find alternative bogs where turf can be legally cut.
