The Greek parties that broadly back the country's international bailout will agree to form a coalition government tomorrow, a senior New Democracy official said.

"We are going to clinch a deal tomorrow, we will form a government," the official, who declined to be named, said.

The official said the Socialist Pasok party would appoint members in the next cabinet and also expressed hope that the Democratic Left, a small, moderate leftist party, would take part.

Earlier, Pasok's leader called for the swift formation of a new coalition government but did not say whether he had agreed to join after talks with conservatives who won yesterday’s election.

"The country needs a government right away and the negotiations must be wrapped up tomorrow," Evangelos Venizelos told reporters after meeting New Democracy leader Antonis Samaras.

He called for a national unity government. Mr Samaras called for broad support after winning yesterday's election over the Syriza party.
