The Chairman of the Oireachtas’ Communications Committee has said he is not of the view that it would be relevant to recall RTÉ Chairman Tom Savage for further questioning.
A request for Mr Savage to be recalled was made at a committee meeting today, proposed by Senator John Whelan and supported by Deputy Michael McNamara.
Senator Whelan had asked for clarity on what he termed was an issue of conflict of interest arising from The Communications Clinic's work with one of the parties involved in the Prime Time Investigates programme ‘A Mission to Prey’.
However Committee Chair Deputy Andrew Doyle said the committee's task was to make recommendations on the findings of the Carragher Report into the programme and that he was of the opinion that further questioning of Mr Savage would not be appropriate.
The committee will seek legal clarity on this issue and make a final decision next week.
Meanwhile the committee's final report on the Prime Time Investigates programme is being drafted.
