Fine Gael TD for Longford/Westmeath Nicky McFadden has confirmed she has been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease.
The diagnosis was confirmed at the end of last week.
In a statement, Deputy McFadden said that she would continue to serve her constituents.
She said she had the full support of her party and will have the practical help of her friends and staff to assist her in continuing her work as a Dáil deputy.
