Man and five-year-old daughter die in Tralee house fire

A forensic examination has been carried out at the scene of a fatal house fire in Tralee, Co Kerry.

The fire claimed the lives of 30-year-old Anthony O'Brien and his five-year-old daughter, Nadine.

Post mortem examinations on the bodies have concluded, but gardaí say they are not releasing the preliminary results of those examinations for operational reasons.

The fire broke out at Killeen Heights, Oakpark, at about 2.20am.

The child's mother escaped from the blaze and is being treated in hospital.

A neighbour who heard shouting coming from the two-storey semi-detached house contacted the emergency services and a number of units of the fire service in Tralee responded along with gardaí.

The mother escaped by jumping from an upstairs window. She sustained a broken leg and is being treated at Kerry General Hospital in Tralee.

The cause of the fire is not known at this stage and the house has been sealed off.
