Skin cancer drug Ipilimumab available for Irish patients

The HSE has announced that a new skin cancer drug will now be made available to patients in Ireland.

A group of patients with advanced melanoma have been campaigning to get Ipilimumab.

It costs €85,000 for an average course and trials have shown that the drug can improve survival.

The HSE said it anticipated that 60 patients will be eligible for treatment this year. It added that further information for doctors and hospitals will be provided over the coming days.
