Dublin City councillors want local authorities to be able to set clamping charges.

Rates are currently set by the Minister for Transport but a recent report pointed out that the €80 fee has not been increased since 1998.

The report from the city council's parking appeals officer said that increasing the charge to €130 would help cover the cost of enforcement.

Today the city council's transport committee voted to request the minister to give local authorities the power to set the charge.
