Three students have lost their appeal to the High Court over changes made to the third-level grant system in recent years.
They have all had their grants cut as a result of changes made in Budget 2011.
They had argued that they had a legitimate expectation that their grants would not be cut severely. However, the High Court rejected their arguments.
The students took the case with the support of the Union of Students in Ireland.
