A mother and daughter have died in a house fire in Dungannon in Co Tyrone.

The alarm was raised at Dunlea Vale at around 10pm last night.

The PSNI has named the women as Deirdre McGirr, 38, and her mother Elizabeth McGirr, 71.

A man in his 30s managed to escape from the house.

A PSNI spokesperson said it is investigating the fire and a police forensic team is at the scene.

It is thought the mother lived locally and was visiting her daughter at the time.

Indications are the fire spread rapidly and the building has been badly damaged.
