A rare waterspout was spotted off the coast of Bray, Co Wicklow, this morning.

Witnesses reported seeing the waterspout close to Bray Head just before 7am.

Chris Ryan said: “It gained in strength as it moved over the water, with a waterspout all the way up to a high cloud belt.

“It reached landfall at the foot of Bray Head, where it turned green for a second and then dissipated.”

There are also a number of videos on YouTube showing the waterspout.

Met Éireann said it cannot confirm this morning’s reports.

However, a spokeswoman said that although it does not have the tornado recorded on its systems, conditions in the area were right for it.
