Flu-like symptoms for 11 Nazareth House residents

Investigations are continuing into an influenza outbreak in a Donegal nursing home, which claimed the lives of six people.

The six deaths at Nazareth House nursing home in Fahan took place in less than a fortnight.

The Health Service Executive said that, as of last night, 11 people were showing respiratory symptoms attributed to flu.

The HSE has confirmed that four of those who died had been vaccinated against the influenza virus.

Dr Peter Wright, Director of Public Health with HSE North West, has said the public should not be concerned about the vaccine’s overall effectiveness.
