Almost 140 workers at the Waterford County Council offices in Dungarvan are taking part in an unofficial dispute following the suspension of two of its members yesterday afternoon.

An emergency meeting was held by members of the union Unite last night, resulting in the unofficial action which began at 8am.

It is understood the action centres on the restructuring and reorganisation of outdoor staff, particularly in the water section.

Tony Kelly from Unite said essential water services will be covered but all other services will be affected as a result of the action, which he said will continue until both members are reinstated.

The union said they were making themselves available for talks with management today.
