The Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform has said it is necessary to get a full picture of the banking crisis.
Brendan Howlin said that people are confused about what happened amid a lot of misinformation.
The Minister was speaking in an interview with the Financial Times.
Mr Howlin said a full explanation has not been given about who was involved and who made certain decisions, which he said were reckless and outrageous.
He said he would like to see an early determination of the investigations that are already under way.
Mr Howlin said the Government was reflecting on the failed referendum to establish parliamentary inquiries.
He said the referendum could eventually be rerun or there were alternatives, such as setting up a committee of inquiry or appointing a High Court inspector to undertake an investigation at sometime in the future.
