Dolls Store and Hospital re-opens in Dublin

The Dolls Store and Hospital has re-opened in a new home, just a month after closing it doors on Dublin's South Great Georges Street because of rising rents.

The business, which has been running for more than 80 years, is now operating from the nearby Powerscourt Townhouse Centre.

The store’s owner, Melissa Nolan, had decided to close the shop and operate the business online because of the costs of rents, rates and other business charges.

But she was inundated with offers of premises throughout the country following publicity about the closure of the shop.

She opted for the ballroom of the nearby Powerscourt Townhouse Centre.

The extra space has allowed her to add a museum displaying her own collection of old dolls and bears.

She also intends to open a nursery later in the year from which children will be able to pick "newborn" dolls and teddy bears.

The Dolls Hospital and Teddy Bar Clinic part of the service is not operating at the moment, but it is expected to be back up and running in the coming weeks.
