A delegation from the Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform were in Berlin today to meet their German counterparts from the Bundestag's Budgetary and European Affairs committees.
This was the first day of a two-day meeting.
Labour TD Alex White, who chairs the Oireachtas committee, said they would discuss the controversy over how last year's budget was revealed to the Bundestag before the Dáil.
The delegation is a cross-party group of TDs and includes Fine Gael's Liam Twomey, Fianna Fáil's Michael McGrath, Sinn Féin's Pearse Doherty and Richard Boyd-Barrett of the United Left Alliance.
Three other TDs - Peter Mathews, Arthur Spring and Kieran O'Donnell - and Senator Michael D'Arcy travelled with the delegation at their own expense.
Over the two days, they will meet the Bundestag's Budgetary Committee, including chair Petra Merkel of the opposition SPD, followed by talks with the Bundestag's European Affairs Committees, including chair Gunther Krichbaum from the ruling CDU.
Mr White said the Irish delegation was looking forward to positive, frank and open discussions on many fiscal issues.
