An AA Ireland survey suggests that fuel prices here have risen by up to 7c a litre as a result of the VAT increase and international prices.

The study of retail prices suggests that a litre of petrol now costs on average 154.9c - an increase of 7c since December.

Diesel has increased by 6.2c to an average of 153.1c in the last month.

Conor Faughnan, spokesman with AA Ireland, said the Government's decision to increase VAT by 2% on fuel and other items was impacting on families' incomes.
