Police in Northern Ireland have said that an explosive device found in a car in Belfast this morning was viable.
The discovery had earlier lead to a security alert in the Blackdam Court area in the north of the city.
Army bomb disposal experts carried out a controlled explosion and local residents who were evacuated from their homes have now been allowed to return.
PSNI investigate Belfast shooting
Separately, the PSNI are investigating a shooting in west Belfast in which a young man was shot and seriously injured.
The incident took place at a house at Aspen Walk in Dunmurry at around 8pm last night.
It is understood the victim sustained a leg wound and underwent surgery overnight.
Local SDLP Councillor Brian Heading said it appeared to have been a paramilitary-style attack.
