Met Éireann has issued a weather warning about gale force winds today.

Gale force winds of between 100 to 130 km/ph are forecast today.

Met Éireann says the most damaging are expected to be in exposed coastal and hilly areas of Ulster and Connacht.

It says that winds will result in very high seas which in conjunction with high astronomical tides are likely to cause flooding on western and northern coasts.

The strong winds will continue up to this evening but it'll be less windy later but turning cloudy and milder with rain and drizzle spreading from the northwest.

Gardaí have appealed to pedestrians, cyclists and motor cyclists to wear high visibility fluorescent clothing and for all road users to be alert to the dangers posed by the changing weather.
