Some parts of the country experienced spot flooding this morning after up to 25mm of rain fell in a few hours.
Gale force winds with gusts of up to 100km/h were also reported in the east and southeast.
AA Roadwatch says there has been an improvement in road conditions in the south, but warns there is still a lot of flooding in the northwest and in Leinster.
Cavan: The N3 Dublin/Cavan Road is closed due to flooding near Killygarry Church just outside Cavan.
Kildare: Excess surface water on the M4 between J7Maynooth and J5 Leixlip and on the Clane/Leixlip Rd (R403).
Kilkenny: Flooding at Gorteen Cross near Castlecomer.
Longford: Floods on the N55 Cavan/Athlone Road between Ballymahon and Edgeworthstown. More flooding on the local road between Edgeworthstown and Ballinalee and around Ardagh village.
Monaghan: The Monaghan/Threemilehouse Rd is closed due to flooding. Shanco Road is also impassable.
Roscommon: Spot flooding on N68 Roscommon/Galway Road between Athleague and Ballygar, and on the Carrick Road (R294) between Boyle and Carrickmore. Flooding on the Elphin/Strokstown Rd (R368).
Sligo: Flooding on the N16 Sligo/ Manorhamilton Road at Glencar. Also floods reported on on the Ballymote/Gurteen Road (R295) and spot flooding on local roads between Ballymote, Rathmullen and Templehouse.
Met Éireann says it will be cold and clear this evening with heavy showers over western counties.
