Lawyers for the former Anglo Irish Bank have brought an application at the High Court in Belfast to have Seán Quinn's bankruptcy annulled.

A full hearing of the matter will take place on 19 December.

The Fermanagh businessman was declared bankrupt in Northern Ireland two weeks ago, however the Irish Banking Resolution Corporation disputes the claim that his centre of main interests is in the North.

Lawyers for IBRC appeared at the High Court in Belfast this morning seeking to have Mr Quinn's bankruptcy overturned.

Counsel for Mr Quinn argued they needed more time to respond as a substantial amount of material about their client's business interests would need to be put before the court in order to prove his residency.

However, lawyers for both the bank and the receiver said the case needed to be dealt with as a matter of considerable urgency.

A full hearing will take place on 19 and 20 December.

Yesterday, the Commercial Court in Dublin ordered Mr Quinn to repay the bank €417m.

A decision on a further €1.6bn being sought by the bank has been adjourned until Monday.
