The Food Safety Authority has said that five food businesses were closed in August for breaches of safety laws.

The businesses closed were: The Willow Tree Chinese Takeaway, Main Street, Moville, Co Donegal; The Oscar Taylor Restaurant, Island View Hotel, Coast Road, Malahide, Co Dublin; Macaris, Main Street, Bray , Co Wicklow; Bombay Spice, South Circular Road, Dublin; and Arklow Kebab House, Lower Main Street, Arklow, Co Wicklow.

A Prohibition Order was served on M&B Catering, Clonshaugh Industrial Estate, Dublin 17.

Prohibition orders are issued if activities involving batches of food are likely to involve a risk to public health. Most of the orders were lifted within a few days.

FSAI chief executive Prof Alan Reilly said it was disappointing to see the number of enforcement orders served in August double the numbers that were served on food businesses for July.

Most food businesses are committed to high standards for the health of their customers and the good of their business, he said.

However, he urged food businesses to make sure that there is a food safety management system in place and that it is consulted on a regular basis and updated where necessary.
