Women can reduce their risk of breast cancer by up to 42% by being more active, drinking less alcohol and having a better diet.

That is the latest advice from the World Cancer Research Fund and the message of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which has just begun.

Ireland has the world's seventh highest breast cancer rate and international research shows that lifestyle changes could make a huge difference.

The World Cancer Research Fund has found that in countries such as Ireland approximately four in ten breast cancer cases can be linked to alcohol, physical inactivity and body fat.

As part of Breast Cancer Awareness month, the National Breast Cancer Conference takes place this Saturday at Croke Park.

All current breast cancer patients and survivors are welcome to attend and can do so by registering on the Irish Cancer Society's website.
