The Irish Cave Rescue Organisation is meeting gardaí to make arrangements for the retrieval of the body of a diver from a cave in Galway.

Artur Kozlowski, a Polish man in his 30s, failed to resurface after taking a diving trip on Monday near Gort.

His body was located last night nearly 24 hours after the alarm was raised.

ICRO spokesperson Conor McGrath said the body was 50 metres below water and the retrieval operation posed a serious technical challenge.

Mr McGrath said it would be tomorrow at the earliest before recovery efforts begin.

In a statement, the ICRO said three specialist divers are travelling to Gort this evening and it is expected that they will commence the recovery dive tomorrow.

Gardaí are being asked to request the assistance of an international diving crew from the UK.
