Thousands of people have marched in Dublin for the ban on same-sex marriage to be lifted, organisers said.

The March for Marriage went through the city centre and rallied outside the Department of Justice.

Speakers at the rally included singer and gay rights supporter Brian Kennedy.

'I am here today because this is a human rights issue,' he told the crowd.

'There are 150 anomalies between Civil Partnership and Civil Marriage; this is the first rung on the ladder, but there are many rungs still to climb until we reach equality.'
