The High Court has approved a €2.5m Health Service Executive settlement with a 23-year-old woman with cerebral palsy and is wheelchair-bound.
Lauren Tinney of Buncrana, Co Donegal sued the HSE through her mother Eleanor.
The Tinney family claimed Laura's injuries were caused by medical negligence at her birth in Letterkenny General Hospital in May 1988.
This was strongly denied by the HSE and the settlement was made without admission of liability.
The court heard that as a result of what happened to Ms Tinney she was confined to a wheelchair, unable to walk or stand, has extremely little use of her left hand, was grossly disabled and required a great deal of care.
In a statement given outside the court her solicitor Roger Murray said it had been a long struggle for the family and had taken dedication, courage, and perseverance.
He said the family were happy justice had finally been done.
They were very pleased and delighted with the settlement, he said, and Ms Tinney was now in a position where she could feel more comfortable about the rest of her life.
