The Food Safety Authority of Ireland has confirmed that ten businesses were closed during the month of June for breaches in food safety legislation.
FSA Chief Executive Professor Alan Reilly described figures as hugely disappointing and unacceptable.
Closure orders were served on three premises in Dublin: The Tasty, 71 Thomas Street; the Tasty Hut, 61 Upper Dorset Street; and the Bombay Spice, 404 South Circular Road.
One of the closures was in Waterford: the Punjabi Taste, 25 Mary Street, Dungarvan.
There were two closures in Cork: the Punjab Curry House, Main Street, Schull, and Hamdans Kebab House, Main Street, Cullen, Mallow.
The other premises closed were the Trinity Rooms, The Granary, Michael Street, Limerick; Siopa Iasc (Moycullen Seafoods) wholesaling activities, Unit 3 Cearnog Nua, Moycullen, Co Galway; and Dolce Mundo, Navan, Co Meath.
A prohibition order was served on T/A Sligo Spice and Halal Point, 14 Connolly Street, Sligo.
A successful prosecution was also carried out by the HSE West Region on The Brewery Bar, Market Square, Letterkenny, Co Donegal.
Prof Reilly said the figures for June showed a dramatic increase from four to ten this month.
He said consumers have to be confident that the food they are eating is safe to eat and inspectors will continue to use a zero tolerance policy regarding breaches of the law.
