Two die in separate accidents

A woman in her 50s has died after she was struck by a truck on a beach in Co Kerry.

The incident happened on Inch Strand in Dingle shortly before 10am.

It is understood the vehicle was being used to transport surfboards and was reversing at the time of the incident.

The victim, who was an American tourist, had been walking on the beach when the incident happened.

She had arrived by bus with a group of tourists for a walk on Inch Strand. Her husband was with her at the time of the incident.

The body has been removed to Tralee General Hospital, where a post mortem will be carried out.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them.

Meanwhile, gardaí are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at approximately 10.45am at Stonepark, Co Sligo.

A 46-year-old male motorcyclist was fatally injured when the bike he was riding was in collision with a van.

The road is closed to facilitate a forensic examination.
