There were 78 tax settlements totalling almost €15.6m made in the first three months of this year, according to the latest Revenue defaulters' list.

The biggest settlement, totalling almost €1.5m in tax, interest and penalties, involved Sean Joyce, a discount store owner of Kilkenny, Breaffy, Castlebar, Co Mayo.

This was for under-declaration of income tax and VAT.

A nursing home owner, Robert Fagan of 58 Park Avenue, Sandymount, Dublin 4, made a settlement of €925,000 arising from under-declaration of income tax.

Metal recycling and car parts service firm Molloy Metals Recycling Ltd, of Tomgarrow, Enniscorthy, Co Wexford, was involved in a settlement of just over €785,000 for under-declaration of VAT.

Six of the 78 settlements in the period were linked to bogus non-resident account holders, while 12 related to Revenue's probes into offshore funds.

Seven were linked to an investigation into single premium insurance products.

Revenue says all of its audits and investigations in the first three months of this year netted a total of €106.8m.
