Figures released by the Irish motor industry show that more than 9,300 car scrappage deals had been done by the end of May.
Under the scheme, motorists are offered a financial incentive to scrap vehicles that are more than ten years old and buy a new one that meets emissions targets.
With over 17,000 scrappage cars sold last year, the total since the scheme was announced now exceeds 26,500.
The Government scheme is due to finish at the end of this month.
