An Irish motorcyclist has been killed in the Isle of Man TT Race.

Derek Brien, 34, from Bellewstown in Co Meath was killed during the first Supersport race following an accident at Gorse Lea.

The race was immediately red flagged following the incident.

‘Derek was a very talented road racer and achieved a number of notable career highlights including his Manx Grand Prix victory,’ said Jim Parker, managing director of ACU events, the organisers of the Isle of Man races. ‘He will be sorely missed.’

The coroner has been informed and an investigation into the circumstances of the accident is under way.
