Former senator Kathleen O'Meara is to seek the Labour Party nomination to run in the Presidential election later this year.
The 51-year-old former RTÉ journalist, who is currently Head of Advocacy and Communications with the National Cancer Society, says she wants to create a new proclamation to be declared in 2016.
Already former Galway West TD Michael D Higgins and Barnardos Chief Executive Fergus Finlay have indicated they will be seeking the Labour Party nomination, which is expected to be decided on 19 June.
Last week, Special Olympics organiser Mary Davis announced she intends to seek a nomination to run as an Independent candidate in the election.
Senator David Norris is also campaigning to be nominated as an Independent and businessman Sean Gallagher has also declared he will seek a nomination.
Fine Gael is also expected to choose a candidate over the summer - former Taoiseach John Bruton ruled himself out over the weekend.
Fianna Fáil has yet to decide whether to nominate a candidate.
