Minister Richard Bruton has announced a €55m investment in developing research centres in cloud computing, energy/smart grid and the funding for research teams in life sciences, ICT and energy.

The Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation said €5m is to be allocated for a research centre in cloud computing, €6m for a research centre in energy/smart grid and €44m will go to funding principal investigator research teams in life sciences, ICT and energy.

There is also funding for 25% more high growth and high potential start up companies.

Minister Bruton said that the investment is aimed at addressing the commercialisation gap, to ensure that good ideas can become great businesses which create jobs.
