The Irish launch of a global campaign to promote safe driving has taken place in Dublin.
There has been a 48% drop in the number of people killed in road crashes over the past ten years.
According to the Road Safety Authority, the number of serious injuries in road crashes is also down by 58%.
Ireland is the latest country to take part in a new worldwide United Nations campaign to try to promote safe driving.
The campaign wants to halve the number of deaths and injuries on roads worldwide over the next ten years.
The UN says 1.3m people die in road crashes every year with at least 50m injured.
The Road Safety Authority, gardaí and the group Parents Against Road Carnage attended the launch of the campaign.
