Farm leaders and journalist colleagues attended the funeral in Dublin this morning of former RTÉ broadcaster Joe Murray who died on Wednesday aged 74.

Mr Murray worked for over three decades on agricultural programmes on both television and radio.

At his funeral Mass in Foxrock, Fr Dermod McCarthy spoke of Mr Murray's love of the land. The priest praised his courage as a journalist and his dedication to truth.

The attendance included former Taoiseach John Bruton, former Finance Minister Alan Dukes, Labour TD Alex White and Fine Gael MEP Mairead McGuinness.

Also present were former IFA leaders Alan Gillis, Tom Parlon and Padraig Walshe, the Rditor of the Irish Farmers' Journal, Matt Dempsey, IFA General Secretary Pat Smith and many figures from the agri-business industry.

A Guard of Honour was formed outside the church by former RTÉ colleagues and members of the Guild of Agricultural Journalists.

Mr Murray is survived by his wife Toni, daughters Isobel and Susan and grandchildren.
